An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with Comilla DB Police in Amtoli area near the Gumti river of Comilla Sadar around 1:30am yesterday.
The deceased, identified as Abu Taher, 28, son of Abul Khayer Mia of Sangraish of the Sadar upazila, was a leader of a notorious gang of robbers, police claimed.
Officer-in-Charge Monjur Alam of Comilla DB police said the DB police was conducting a special drive near the Gumti in Amtoli. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fired on the policemen resulting in a gunfight.
Taher was shot dead on the spot.
The police team was able to arrest another robber from the area.
Taher allegedly led the robbery of Tk 40 lakh from Max Group in Thira Pukur Par of Chortha area in Comilla City recently, police claimed.
