Life of Mozart told in fantastic pop and rock

THE music genius Mozart is being presented as a rock star in French musical “Mozart — L’opera Rock” at SAIC Shanghai Culture Square.

Italian singer Mikelangelo Loconte plays the lead role of Mozart, while French musical actor Florent Mothe plays Salieri.

The French version is more like presenting a modern rock soul in flowery retro dresses, according to Fei Yuanhong, vice president of Shanghai Culture Square.

The music used in “Mozart — L’opera Rock” is basically pop and rock, yet traces of Mozart’s own work such as “Twinkle Little Star Variation,” “Symphony No. 40” and “Requiem in D minor” can also be heard.

“Mozart is a musician with free spirit. He was always pursuing beautiful music at whatever cost,” said Loconte. “Musician has to be free individual so as to create music rather than simply serve it.”
