Savanne Road between Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. and La. 311 is temporarily closed while the Bayou Cane Fire Department battles a marsh fire.

Crews shut down to road to safely battle the fire and will reopen it to traffic as soon as possible, Cheif Ken Himel said.

In a Facebook post, Himel asked drivers to respect the road closure.

"To the idiot who thought it would be a good idea to light the marsh, thank you for being so inconsiderate to all of the people in the area who will be inconvenienced regarding traffic backing up," Himel said in the post. "While you may think this was 'just for kicks' you are tying up resources, affecting people who may have respiratory issues or have children with respiratory issues. In addition you’re blatant disregard for other people’s property (cars, homes, pools getting covered with soot and ash) is disgusting."

The road was closed around 3 p.m. Sunday.
