Re: “The cost of health insurance in the U.S. is out of control,” Jan. 3 letter to the editor.
The letter by Garry Wolff brings home some sad points about the cost of insurance, prescriptions and medical care in this country. This is a double-edged sword. The free market system has given us the finest medical care in the world. Socialized medicine limits costs, but also limits care. At this point the free market system is no longer working for health care. We can make it work.
There are some things we can do right here in our own state. Simple things such as having clinics, pharmacies and hospitals post the charges for medical care and drugs. Create an any-willing-provider system for patients who are in an emergency situation or surgery, so that all providers will be covered under their plan.
There is more, but space here is limited. Start contacting your legislators for help with these fixes, which will start bringing down the cost of your medical care.
