The BJP on Saturday alleged that the BJD is making the Mahanadi issue for its political gains and has no intention to create irrigation facilities for farmers in the State.
“Not former Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti nor incumbent Minister Nitin Gadkari has opposed formation of a tribunal. While eight tribunals have so far been formed, either parties have accepted only three verdicts. It seems that a tribunal can’t solve all problems. The BJD’s plea that construction of barrages in Chhattisgarh would be stopped on formation of a tribunal is not justifiable at all,” pointed out BJP State vice-president Sameer Mohanty at a news conference here.
He dared the BJD to give an example where the Union Government or a tribunal has ordered for stopping of under-construction barrages in any of river dispute cases in the past.
Mohanty said there is no wrong in Gadkari’s assertion that a tribunal would only delay giving justice to the affected State and a new law is going to be enacted for a unique tribunal having a time limit for a verdict.
