Coutinho yesterday completed his dream move to Barcelona from Liverpool for a fee of £142million.

The Reds preferred to sell the Brazilian next summer but eventually gave in to Barcelona and Coutinho’s demands.

But Wright reckons the playmaker won’t be a huge miss for Liverpool and says they are good enough to cope without him.

“I think this is the best possible time for Liverpool to actually sell him,” the Arsenal legend said.

“I just think at the moment with the way they’re playing and the way their forwards are playing, I don’t think they will miss him as much. 

“They’ve done pretty well when he’s not played as well, Philippe Coutinho. 

“Of course he’s a quality player, but at the same time I think they’re playing well enough at the minute where you can’t turn down that money.”

Wright’s colleague and former England team-mate Alan Shearer says it will be difficult for Liverpool to source a replacement for Coutinho this month.

“It’s very difficult to go and get a replacement in this month now,” Shearer said.

“I think it wouldn’t surprise me if they waited until the end of the season and then do it then. 

"But, it’s a big fee for him.”
