Through different creative media, artists on Saturday explained the importance of universal adult franchise, role of voters in democracy to the public especially to the young voters. The first of its kind initiative taken up by the district administration, Ranchi Election Fest-2018 witnessed huge footfall.
The event organised in the ongoing Khadi Saras Mela-2018 witnessed the participation of youths from different institutions in sufficient numbers. Sidelining all traditional ways like organising camps to enroll young voters, arranging seminars on schools, colleges’ premises to motivate youths while imparting the importance of voting rights, the attempt made by district election office received much applaud from the public.
“We have tried to showcase the importance of voting rights through different mediums to attract youths. Cultural programmes are designed in such a way that it covers the message of Election Commission of India (ECI). Also this creative attempt is to boost the voters’ awareness drive that is organised at a regular interval at different places,” said District Election Officer, Geeta Choubey during the event.
From skits to singing, dancing competition, different cultural activities were showcased to motivate public. Keeping cultural diversity while bridging the language barrier, the cultural activities were presented in different languages to capture the interest of audiences.
“We have tried to present the show in different languages so that our message reaches out to maximum number of public. Utilising the power of different languages like Nagpuri and other regional lingos, the cultural programme besides touching upon one of the most important issue will leave an impact on the minds of public coming from different strata of the society,” added Choubey.
Meanwhile, several participants stated that this is first time when they got to mix up their creativity with any event that has social impact. “I am for the first time performing at an event that has some social importance. Also, our team got to do something unique that has eventually increased our versatility,” said, a student of BIT, Mesra who performed live during the event.
Also, participants who attended the programme termed the event, an innovative move to capture the interest of people towards one of the important issues ‘Voting Rights’. The evening that was filled up with much fun-frolic activities were attended by several dignitaries.
