PUBG rival Paladins has given fans an update about the launch of its new Battlegrounds game mode.

Paladins developer Hi-Rez Studios recently announced plans to launch a new battle royale game mode called Battlegrounds.

Much like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, the upcoming Paladins game mode sees 100 players battle to be the last person standing on a huge map.

And Hi-Rez Studios has since provided an update about a possible release date.

Speaking to DualShockers, CEO Erez Goren and COO Todd Harris said that a beta is planned before the end of March.

"We want to put it in real players’ hands by the end of this quarter, so that’s what we are shooting for," Harris said.

Erez Goren added: "So hopefully, by end of February (March timeframe at the latest) we will have people testing it externally. I don’t know if it will be wide release at that point."

This means PS4 owners have another Battlegrounds-style game to check out ahead of PUBG's PS4 release date.

The upcoming Paladins game mode takes place on a map that's 300 times bigger than regular maps and also includes team play.

"Paladins: Battlegrounds is the first-ever hero shooter battle royale," Hi-Rez explains. "In joining the two genres together, we’ve come up with something that feels brand new.

"You and your team will spawn onto a truly massive map - more than 300 times the size of our largest Siege map today.

"You’ll hop onto your mounts and start exploring, looting your way through more than four dozen outposts and tracking zeppelins that drop legendary gear.

"As the fog contracts, the stakes are raised. The last team standing wins, and that’s not easy with 100 players!"

The news comes as PUBG gets another new update on Xbox One.

In a post on the Battlegrounds forum, the developer said that the next patch will address known crashes and provide some quality of life improvements.

"We’ve finalised our list of fixes for our first 'Client Side' patch of 2018. This next patch is focused on addressing known crashes as well as providing some quality of life improvements and gameplay adjustments."

In terms of a release date, the patch has been submitted to Microsoft and should launch soon.

"If all goes as planned we’ll be submitting our patch to Microsoft Certification tomorrow, with more specifics regarding release timing as well as the content of our patch later this week," Bluehole added.
