Intense cold wave swept across Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh while dense fog engulfed most parts of both the States, affecting normal life.
Foggy weather delayed some trains passing through Punjab and Haryana and also affected flight operations, officials said.
Chandigarh recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 1.8 degree Celsius, followed by Bathinda in Punjab which shivered at 1.9 degree Celsius, the MeT department said.
Adampur in Jalandhar district, Pathankot and Halwara recorded minimum temperatures of 2.3 degree Celsius, 4 degree Celsius and 4.3 degrees Celsius respectively.
Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar experienced biting cold at 3 degree Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their respective minimum temperatures at 4.7 degree Celsius and 4.6 degree Celsius.
In Haryana, Ambala braved bone-chilling weather at 5.6 degree Celsius while Hisar registered a low of 2.6 degree Celsius, four notches below normal.
Karnal, Rohtak and Narnaul recorded minimum temperatures at 4 degree Celsius, 3.7 degree Celsius and 3 degree Celsius respectively.
In neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, tourist destinations Shimla and Manali on Saturday saw the season’s lowest temperature. The minimum temperatures across the state remained two-three degrees below average.
At many places in the State the temperatures remained below freezing point, an official of the meteorological office said adding there was no chance of rain and snow across the state for a week more. Keylong, headquarter town of Lahaul and Spiti district, was the coldest at a minimum of minus 11.3 degree Celsius.
Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a low of minus 5.2 degree Celsius, while the temperature was five degrees in Dharamsala and 0.7 degree in Dalhousie.
The State capital saw a low of 1.4 degree Celsius, while it was minus 5.4 degrees in Manali.
