Janet Kathleen (Juhl) Burkett, 72, of Sioux City, died unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at a local hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel (3220 Stone Park Blvd.) in Sioux City. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Janet, the daughter of Glenn and Viola (Hohbach) Juhl, was born Nov. 22, 1945, in Cherokee, Iowa. Janet’s family lived in Cherokee and then moved to Marcus, Iowa. She attended school in Marcus until fourth grade when they moved to Hinton, Iowa. She graduated from Hinton High School in 1963.
On July 8, 1964, Janet was united in marriage to Jerry “Douglas” Burkett, in Sioux City and this union was blessed with three children. After their marriage, Janet and Doug lived in Alabama and then Kansas City before returning to make their home in Sioux City. She worked at The Daily Reporter, Cablecom, Names Unlimited, owned JaMar Soy Candlemagic and was a realtor for a short time.
Janet enjoyed crafts, antiques, playing Canasta, going to the senior center and lunches with her friends. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Janet is survived by one son, Jeremy (Teri) Burkett and their children Gabrielle, Brigit, Danika and Katriel all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Sydni (Brandon) Martin and their children Andrew, Pheonyx, Oliver and Kinnick all of Sioux City; one brother, Duane (Mary Rubel) Juhl of Sioux City and one sister, Dianne (Kenny) Gampp of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doug on Sept. 1, 2017; one son, Michael and one brother in infancy, Gerald Juhl.
