How much Inter Milan pocketed from Liverpool’s £142m Philippe Coutinho deal with Barcelona

INTER MILAN have pocketed a nice Christmas bonus from Philippe Coutinho’s big-money transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona.

Inter Milan have received a windfall from the sale of Philippe Coutinho

Inter Milan sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in 2013 for just £8.5million but the Italian side wisely included a sell-on clause.

The Serie A side reached an agreement with the Reds entitling them to 1.5 per cent of any future sale of the Brazil international.

And following his £142million switch to the Nou Camp, Inter have pocketed themselves just shy of £2.2m.

And that is not the only windfall for the Serie A club, who also look set to sign Gerard Deulofeu on loan from Barca.

In the wake of Coutinho’s move to the Nou Camp, the Catalan side are reportedly keen to offload some of the dead wood in their squad.

Although they are keeping themselves afloat following the £200m sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, they have identified some players to leave to free up funds.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim Deulofeu is one player set to be given his marching orders and he could be on his way to Inter.

The Italian side are keen to take the former Everton man on loan for the remainder of the season to help bolster their title chances.

Speaking about Deulofeu’s future this week, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde said: “If Deulofeu asks to leave we’ll evaluate things, but that’s not happened yet.

”He has had his chances over the course of the season and now it’s time for others to have a chance.

“It’s about the coach having to make decisions.

“What he has to do is work hard to change his situation and get [back] in the squad.”
