The 4th convocation of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia held amid festivity and mus enthusiasm at the campus on Sunday with the slogan of “Islamic University on way to Internationalization”.
President M Abdul Hamid, also the chancellor of the university presided over the convocation ceremony while University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Professor Abdul Mannan was present as the special guest.
Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) delivered the convocation speech and IU vice chancellor professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari addressed the welcome speech.
IU Pro-VC professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman and Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha spoke out the vote of thanks on the convocation.
More than 100 VIP guests, 9,000 graduates, post graduates and MPhil-PhD researchers of the university took part at the convocation while 81 post graduates got President Gold Medal from the function for their outstanding academic results among the faculties.
Later, Dean of Theology and Islamic studies faculty Professor Dr Abul Barakat M Faruk, dean of Humanities and Social Sciences faculty Professor Dr Nesar Uddin Ahmad, dean of Law and Shariah faculty Professor Dr Reba Mandol, dean of business administrative building Professor Dr Kazi Akhtar Hossain and dean of applied science and technology faculty Professor Dr Momtazul Islam put forward the degrees of Honours, Masters, MPhil and PhD to the university chancellor.
Professor Dr M Sarwar Murshed Ratan of Bangla department and Armin Khatun, assistant Professor of Law department jointly conducted the convocation.
Marking the convocation, the university was decorated into a new look with a gorgeous stage while all the academic-administrative buildings, residential halls, monuments and roads of the campus are also decorated with LED light.
Besides, President also the Chancellor of the university M Abdul Hamid inaugurated the completion of infrastructural development of the university including Bangabandhu Mural, Sheikh Russell Hall, second phase of Deshratna Sheikh Hasina Hall, Dr M A Wazed 2nd Science building and an amazing fountain by laying down the foundation stone on the day.
Later, a colorful cultural function was held.
