On Tuesday, Jefferson Regional Medical Center welcomed baby Shervy Pittman into the world, the first Pine Bluff baby of 2018, according to a news release issued Friday. He was born at 9:02 p.m., weighing five pounds and two ounces.

His parents are Kiearra Brewer and Shervy Pittman, and both were excited to welcome their child as they greeted the New Year, the news release said.

“I’m just blessed that he’s here,” Brewer said. “Happy that he made it in safe. I’m just joyful, excited – I can’t stop smiling. How could I not be excited for the New Year with him?”

His father had similar thoughts: “To be a dad is the best New Year’s resolution I’ve ever had,” he said. “By far. A new start – a new beginning. I doesn’t get better than that.”
