Arsenal fans are furious with what the official Twitter account has posted

Arsenal went down to an embarrassing 4-2 defeat to Championship side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round this afternoon.

Arsene Wenger watched the horror show unfold from the stands and paid tribute to Forest after the match.

The Arsenal Twitter account used one of his quotes to plug an article published on their site following the loss.

A link was posted to the 12.8m followers and the message read: "You have to congratulate @NFFC for an outstanding performance."

But that only served to wind up hundreds of fans who couldn't believe what the Frenchman had said.

"Grandaddy cannot be serious?" wrote one while another said "No you lot need to stop tweeting positivity when we get demolished by a chmpionship side delete arsenals account !!!!!!"

A follower told Arsenal "stop tweeting" as a fellow fan fumed: "Ohh yeah we will also congratulate you if you resign."

"Delete this tweet NOW," said one tetchy fan while others took their anger out on Wenger.

"You have to let Wenger go", "time for a change" and "announce Wenger gone - not congratulating opposition" wrote others.

The Frenchman said after the game: "Overall, you can congratulate Nottingham Forest for an outstanding performance. They were sharp, won decisive challenges, were always dangerous going forward and I would say they deserved to win today. It’s as simple as that.

"We were not good enough anywhere, not at the front and not in the middle or at the back.

"We paid for it and they looked sharper, had more chances and that’s all I can say. Nottingham Forest had an outstanding performance today.

"We couldn’t fault any individual performance from Forest today."
