Lucy Helen Francis Halt is now 87 years old. She spent 57 years of her life in Bangladesh but despite her prolonged services to the country, she has failed to qualify for citizenship!
Another Briton Julian Francis has been living in Bangladesh since 1989 but he too has failed to obtain Bangladesh citizenship.
He was awarded 'Friends of Bangladesh' accolade for his contribution to Bangladesh's Independence War.

Even after retirement in 2004, she is working for the mental growth of the students of the Oxford Mission and imparting English lessons. She served the injured freedom fighters during the 1971 Independence War.
Coincidentally, her date of birth matches Bangladesh's Victory Day, Dec 16. She was born in the UK town of St Hellens.
On her last legs, it is her desire to have the dual citizenship of Britain and Bangladesh.

“Even after having lived here for so many years, I need to renew my visa every year to stay in Bangladesh and every time I pay Tk 38,000 fees for that.
"This is the saddest part for me as I get only Tk 7,500 pension."
