FOUR people were taken into custody following a 100mph chase through North, South and East Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Police said a silver Subaru Forester was seen travelling at more than 100mph on the westbound M62 near Whitley, Goole, at just after 11pm on Saturday.

North Yorkshire Police officers pursued the Subaru into South Yorkshire and then into Humberside, where it crashed through a fence off London Lane, West Cowick, and got stuck in a field at 11.20pm.

North Yorkshire Police's Operational Support Unit worked with the force's Road Policing Group, firearms unit and dog section and the police helicopter were used in the chase, which ended when the four occupants of the car were located and arrested nearby.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Doncaster, and the passengers, a 25-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, remainĀ in custody for questioning.

A spokesman said the driver was arrested on suspicion of of possessing an offensive weapon - a lock knife with a two-inch blade - possession of Class A and Class B drugs, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
