Welcome to the Sunderland AFC live blog for Sunday, January 7.

The Black Cats were eliminated from the FA Cup at the first time of asking yesterday as they went down 2-0 to Teesside rivals Middlesbrough.

The side Chris Coleman fielded was seriously depleted as the squad is ravaged by injuries.

But there's better news, as Coleman closes in on signings. Jake Clarke-Salter is expected to arrive from Chelsea on loan by tomorrow, while Ben Woodburn is also expected to arrive at some point this month too.

There could also potentially be outgoings too, with interest in Lamine Kone and Didier Ndong.

We've got all the latest on the Black Cats recruitment attempts, plus we'll look ahead to Saturday's FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough .
