JG boys fourth, girls fifth in SEOSL South Meet

ZANESVILLE - The John Glenn High boys finished fourth and the girls were fifth in the Southeast Ohio Swim League South Meet at the Muskingum Recreation Center on Saturday.

Among the individual standouts in the meet from the local area were John Glenn’s Tara Curtis and Cambridge’s Abbie Goggin.

In the girls’ meet, Athens again took top team honors with 133 points, with Liberty Union edging Marietta for runner-up honors, 103-102. Philo (51) took fourth place followed by John Glenn (41), West Muskingum (28), Cambridge (18), Bishop Rosecrans (15), Zanesville (13), Portsmouth Notre Dame (8) and Maysville (5).

John Glenn’s Curtis scored an individual "double" by winning the 100-freestyle (1:00.93) and the 100-breaststroke (1:14.66) while the Cambridge girls were led by Goggin, who placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.36) and second in the 500-freestyle (6:04.92).

The JG girls had three place-winning relay teams - fifth in the 200-medley relay (Olivia Alexander, Curtis, Alayna Call, Kaitlyn Zumbro) in 2:15.15; sixth in the 200-freestyle relay (Olivia Alexander, Alayna Call, Kaitlyn Zumbro, Curtis) in 2:03.03; and sixth in the 400-freestyle relay (Alexander, Call, Zumbro, Anna Sellers) in 4:58.46

Also scoring for the Lady Muskies were Alexander, ninth in the 100-freestyle (1:09.64) and Sellers, ninth in the 100-backstroke (1:26.63).

Also scoring points for the Lady Bobcats were Sydney Shockley, 10th in the 100-freestyle (1:10.92); and Hallie Peterson, 15th in the 200-freestyle (2:58.90).

In the boys’ meet, Athens prevailed with 108 points, just ahead of runner-up Liberty Union’s 105 score. Zanesville (84) was third followed by John Glenn (81), Portsmouth Notre Dame (63), West Muskingum (42) and Marietta (26).

Individual place-winners for the John Glenn boys were Robert Mihalko, third in the 50-freestyle (26.37); Nicholas Andrews, third in the 100-butterfly (1:07.56); Noah St. Clair, fourth in the 50-freestyle (26.50) and fourth in the 100-breaststroke (1:22.63); Cody Milhoan, fourth in the 200-IM (2:52.36); Alex Halasi, fourth in the 100-freestyle (1:00.43); Zach Zumbro, fifth in the 100-freestyle (1:00.54) and sixth in the 200-freestyle (2:18.49); Cheosung O’Brien, sixth in the 100-breaststroke (1:27.41); and Trey Lahmers, seventh in the 100-backstroke (1:26.24).

In relays, the John Glenn boys were second in the 400-freestyle relay (Mihalko, Zumbro, Halasi, Andrews) in 3:55.21; third in the 200-freestyle relay (Andrews, St. Clair, Halasi, Mihalko) in 1:44.24; sixth in the 200-medley relay (Halasi, St. Clair, Andrews, Mihalko) in 2:04.68; and seventh in the 200-freestyle relay (Zumbro, Logan Wilson, Milhoan, O’Brien) in 1:54.44.

NEXT - John Glenn competes at Coshocton on Wednesday at 6 p.m. while Cambridge goes to Wellsburg, W. Va. to face Brooke on Thursday at 4 p.m.
