The CW shocked Supergirl fans in December when it announced the superhero series would disappear from the network's midseason schedule starting in February to allow DC's Legends of Tomorrow to finish its season on Mondays. However, CW boss Mark Pedowitz says that fans should not be worried about the show's future or read anything into the fact the show will be off the air until April.

"We always planned to not have more than four superhero shows out at the same time," Pedowitz told TV Guide at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, alluding to the fact the network will be debuting the highly anticipated superhero drama Black Lightning Tuesday, Jan. 16. But why was Supergirl, the second-highest rated program on The CW, the show given the boot?

"There were some production delays," Pedowitz explained. "We figured OK, let's give it a rest, put Legends on, have iZombie come on with it in February. It gave us a way to keep fresh programming for most of the year into the summer."

"We're big fans of Supergirl across the board, so I'm not really worried," he continued. "People are reading things into things that don't exist."

Supergirl returns Monday, Jan. 15 at 8/7c on The CW, will air original episodes until Feb. 12 and then return to finish its third season on Monday, April 16.
