Iowa State running backs coach Louis Ayeni joins staff at alma mater Northwestern

AMES – Iowa State associate head football coach and running backs coach Louis Ayeni has accepted a job at Northwestern to be its running backs coach. The move was first reported by Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel.

Ayeni played for Northwestern from 1999-2003. He was a running back in his first three seasons before switching to safety his final season. Ayeni was also a graduate assistant for the Wildcats from 2008-09.

Before coming to Iowa State, Ayeni coached NFL standout rookie running back Kareem Hunt at Toledo. At Iowa State, he coached two 1,000-yard rushers, the first was Mike Warren in 2015 and in 2017, it was David Montgomery. Montgomery, a sophomore, also led the country in forced missed tackles according to Pro Football Focus.

Iowa State only lost one fumble all season, which came in its last game of the season.

Ayeni coached at Iowa State from 2014-17.
