President delivers speech in JS, urges for unity

DHAKA: President Abdul Hamid on Sunday (January 07) urged all, including the MPs of treasury and opposition bench, to be united by forgetting the political differences for continuing the democratic voyage in the country.

The President made the urge while delivering his speech in the 19th session of the 10th Parliament, which is also the winter session of 2018.

He began the speech in the Parliament at 6:05 pm. At the time, Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present.  

In his 157-page speech, Abdul Hamid highlighted the activities and successes of incumbent government in different sectors.

Earlier at 4:00 pm, the 19th session began with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. The session will continue till February 28.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Parliament which was held before beginning of the session. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also chaired the meeting. Sheikh Hasina and other members of the committee also attended the meeting.

The meeting also took the decision that a total of 45 hours discussion will be held during the session's thanksgiving motion on the speech of the President.

Just after beginning of the session, the Speaker announced names of the five-member panel of chairmen. Members of the panel are- Lt Col (retd) Faruk Khan, Panchanan Biswas, BM Mozammel Haque, Fakhrul Imam and Syeda Sayera Mohsin.

The nominated members will conduct the proceedings of Parliament in chronological order in the absence of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.
