Florence C. Peterson, 91, of Turin, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at an assisted living facility in Onawa, Iowa.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Father Michael Erpelding, celebrant. Burial will follow in the Belvidere Cemetery near Turin. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday, Jan. 12 at the Rush Family Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Florence Camilla was born on Jan. 15, 1926, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Alphonso and Dorothy (Fest) Ament. She attended country school through eighth grade and graduated high school from Imaculate Conception in Cherokee. She then attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating in 1947 with a degree as a registered nurse.
Florence and Verl C. Peterson were united in marriage on April 10, 1948, in Sioux City. To this union, two children were born, Daniel and Jacqueline. She worked 24 years in area hospitals and nursing homes. Verl preceded her in death on May 18, 2013.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Daniel and Penny Peterson of Turin and Jacqueline “Jackie” and Gary Madsen of Turin; grandson, Chris Madsen of Sioux City; granddaughter, Briana Peterson of Mapleton, Iowa; four step-grandchildren, Brandy Williams of Kansas City, Mo., Valerie Stafford of Richland, Mo., Christina Simkin of Biloxi, Miss. and Jeffrey Owens of Kansas City and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Verl C. Peterson and one granddaughter, Jessica Janine Madsen.
