Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), one of the largest manufacturers of two-wheelers, has registered sales of more than five million units in a single calendar year. The company has sold a total unit of 5,794,893 between January to December in the year 2017, the first time in their 17 years operations in the domestic market.
As per the officials, Honda had sold about 205,158 two-wheelers in December 2016, while for the same time period in 2017, the company posted a 77 percent jump by selling 363,226 units. Going by the figures, one thing is understood that demonetisation really affected the automobile market to a great extent, but the demand was significantly visible.
Honda’s most popular scooters, Activa and the new Grazia, led the sales to grow by 57 percent from 151,758 units in 2016 to 238,818 units in 2017 for the December period.
Looking at the period between April to December in 2017, the two-wheeler manufacturer’s sales grew by 20 percent from 3,859,175 units in 2016 to 4,645,808 units the following year. Even the domestic sales grew by 20 percent to 4,379,395 units along with a surge in the export of 26 percent to 266,413 units, strengthening its position as the third largest two-wheeler exporter of India.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, the senior vice president – sales and marketing, thanked the customers for choosing Honda and also promised to keep up the innovations ahead of their expectations.
