Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati was at the center of a political storm in India after protests from the dominant Rajput caste group in the western state of Rajasthan. After a lot of controversies, Padmavati has finally got a release date. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the historical drama will release on 25 January and cash in on the Republic Day holiday. Well, the much-awaited film is releasing the same date as Akshay Kumar-starrer Padman. However, the makers of the films that are slated to release on the very date are unperturbed by the possible box office clash.
Yes, you heard it right. The makers of Padman have said the film’s January 25 release date will not change. In a statement to a news agency (PTI), Prernaa Arora, one of the producers of Padman, said that they will release the film (Padman) on schedule. “I am clueless what is happening… with clash. I have no idea about it. Even we have heard about it. All we know is Padman is releasing on January 25. Akshay (Kumar, lead actor of Padman) announced it officially,” she said.
Helmed by R Balki, Akshay Kumar starrer Padman also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles. It’s a film about Tamil Nadu-based activist Arunachalam Muruganantham; the man, who revolutionized the manufacture of the low-cost sanitary napkin in India. Prernaa Arora further added, “We are coming on January 25,” adding that, “Padmavati is a very important film. It’s a beautiful film and it should release soon. I am also looking forward to see it. It depends on Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions to decide on the date.” ALSO READ: Rishi Kapoor On Padmavati Controversy: It’s A Democracy And Protesters Should Be Put Behind Bars
