Barcelona beat Levante 3-0 earlier today at the Nou Camp as the super club went nine points clear at the top of La Liga.

They are an incredible 17 points in front of rivals Real Madrid – though Los Blancos have two games in hand.

The Spanish club will pay around £142million for Coutinho, making it the third most expensive transfer in soccer history.

"Barcelona and Liverpool have reached an agreement for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho," the La Liga leaders said in a statement yesterday.

"The player will sign a contract for the rest of the season and five more and will have a release clause of 400 million euros.”

Liverpool also confirmed the deal.

"Liverpool FC can confirm Philippe Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms," the Premier League club said.

"The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities to conclude the transfer immediately."

Paris St Germain paid Barcelona £198million for Brazilian forward Neymar in August.

While the French club will pay Monaco £165million to sign Kylian Mbappe when he completes a loan spell this season.

The Brazilian did not play in Liverpool's last two games against Burnley in the Premier League and Everton in the FA Cup.

Coach Jurgen Klopp said he has a thigh injury.

Coutinho also did not travel with Liverpool to Dubai on Saturday for warm weather training – sparking rumours an announcement on his Barca transfer was imminent.
