Change of helmet for Bancroft:
Fielding at forward short leg, Cameron bancroft was struck on the helmet from a pull shot from Root off Starc. The fielder, however, did not flinch one bit - he hardly had the time to do as well - and asked for a change of helmet after the over.

Root fifty:
After scoring his first boundary of his innings off his 129th delivery, off Starc, Root managed three off Lyon to bring up a fighting half-century. England are 132 for 5, still 171 behind.
Bunny:
For the seventh time out of nine attempts in this series, Nathan Lyon accounted for Moeen Ali. Failing to read a straighter delivery, Moeen is trapped in front for 13. England are 121 for 5 and Root is back at the crease.
Good news:
Visuals of Joe Root being padded up. Good news for England but they'll prefer the current pair to continue doing a good job like they have done so far. Only 20 runs scored off the 13 overs bowled so far but Bairstow and Moeen have managed to keep the Australian bowlers at bay.
100 up for England:
A confident drive from Bairstow off Hazlewood in front of square on the off-side fetches him the first boundary of the day and also helps England past 100. They are now trailing by 202 runs. Can birthday boy Hazlewood come back strongly and make it a special outing with the ball? And now a change in bowling as Pat Cummins is brought into the attack. He almost strikes as Moeen Ali fails to keep a drive down and just about manages to clear Mitchell Marsh at point.
First runs of the morning:
After three maidens in a row, both Moeen and Bairstow get off the mark today with singles off Nathan Lyon. Hazlewood has been operating from the other end.
Root arrives at the ground but not at the crease
The England captain was seen arriving at the ground with the hospital band wrapped around his wrist. He did not arrive to bat as Jonny Bairstow was accompanied by Moeen Ali to the crease.
Prelude:
Hello and welcome to the Live Blog for the final day of the final Test of Ashes 2017-18. England's forgettable Ashes series plunged into further misery as it was Joe Root was taken to a Sydney hospital as he was suffering from severe dehydration with diarrhoea and vomiting. One of the unbeaten batsmen, the England captain is unlikely to resume batting, according to England cricket.
Joe is now on his way to the ground. He is unlikely to start this morning when play resumes.

Root's situation makes matters worse for England, who are staring at a 4-0 rout unless they can come up with something special. They are still 210 runs shy of making Australia bat again. Can the middle order come up with a salvage effort?
