College Men's Basketball: Monmouth takes Lawrence 65-62

APPLETON, Wis. — Justin Aluya, who finished with 17 points, drained the decisive 3-pointer with 1:02 to play in a 65-62 win at Lawrence to keep the Monmouth College men’s basketball team in second place in the Midwest Conference.

Aluya’s shot broke a 62-62 tie as the Fighting Scots completed the rally from a 10-point first half deficit. Monmouth (8-5, 5-1) inched back and pulled within three at halftime on an Aluya free throw and then rolled to a 10-point lead in the second half.

D.J. Swift’s 3-pointer just two minutes into the second half knotted the game at 35-all after Will Jones’ layup the previous possession pulled the Scots within one. Jones’ bucket en route to a 22-point game began Monmouth’s 16-3 run to for its first lead of the game.

The Scots’ lead slipped briefly in the final three minutes before Aluya scored the final six points of the game.
