10 BD nationals killed in Saudi road crash

Ten Bangladeshi workers were killed and eight others injured in a road accident in Jizan province, the western part of Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Earlier Riyadh Daily reported that six Bangladeshis among nine people were killed and 15 others injured in the accident.

The deceased Bangladeshis are identified as Dulal from Sirajganj district, Shafiqul from Tangail, Motiur Rahman from Narayanganj, Amir Hossain and Hridoy from Narsingdi, and Jasim from Kishoreganj district, said the report quoting Shahin Shahjahan, an expatriate in Saudi Arabia.

BSS reports, the accident occurred at about 7 am (local time)  when a pick-up truck, carrying 20 people, rolled over after a car rammed it from behind, according to a statement issued by Bangladesh consulate General in Riyadh today (Sunday).

Of the total, eight people were killed on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. All the victims were employees of a Saudi company, Al Fahd, an expatriate Bangladeshi living in Saudi Arabia told BSS.

Besides, Bangladesh consulate in Jeddah sent its official to the scene after receiving the news. The consulate is also maintaining close contacts with the Saudi authorities in this regard.

Jizan province is some 800 kilometres away from the port city of Jeddah and situated near the border with Yemen.
