Wintry mix in store for Monday evening commuters

For some, the evening commute on Monday could include some freezing rain and sleet.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for central and southwestern New Jersey, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

A wintry mix, including light freezing rain, sleet and snow, could hit commuters in the evening.

The cold temperatures that were brought in, along with inches of snow, after a storm last week have persisted throughout the weekend.

On Monday, those low temperatures will affect ferry service from Highlands, New Jersey to Manhattan.

Service on the ferry, "due to the worst conditions in Seastreak's operating history," will be cancelled on Monday.

As of Sunday evening, two districts were planning on a two-hour delay for Monday, including Berkeley Township School District in Atlantic County and Margate City Public Schools in Ocean County. Atlantic City Schools will be closed.

Good news is on the horizon, though, temperatures will increase next week, with highs reaching 50 in Newark on Friday.
