Bitterly cold Sunday, but warmup approaches

As a warmup approaches this week, we'll still have to contend with bitterly cold temperatures in the teens and wind chills as low as minus 19 degrees on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday.

Clouds will increase by Sunday night and temperatures will remain in the teens, the Weather Service says, but as Monday approaches we'll see a warmup, coming close to 34 degrees, along with the chances of afternoon rain, then snow. About a half-inch of additional snow is possible Monday night, with continued gusty winds, and temperatures around 28.

By Tuesday, we can expect slightly warmer temperatures, rising to around 37, though northwest winds gusting to 29 mph will persist. Tuesday night temperatures will drop to the mid teens.

"High pressure will build across the eastern seaboard through the end of the work week, bringing milder temperatures especially Thursday and Friday,"the Weather Service says in its forecast discussion.

Temperatures will be near 35 on Wednesday, approach 47 on Thursday and 51 on Friday, though there will be a chance of some rain.
