Philippe Coutinho move to Barcelona STOPPING Liverpool transfer

PHILIPPE COUTINHO will complete his move to Barcelona at some point today, but his transfer has put the breaks on Ben Woodburn’s loan move to Sunderland, according to reports.

Liverpool stood firm in the summer after Barcelona came calling for Coutinho and knocked back three bids as well as the Brazilian’s transfer request.

But an improved bid worth £142million proved too good for Liverpool to turn down with Coutinho expressing his wish to secure the move this month.

Jurgen Klopp insists the club did all they could to persuade Coutinho that Anfield was the right place for him to continue playing, but ultimately the 25-year-old wanted to leave.

With £102m available to spend right away, while another £40m will arrive in performance-based add-ons, Liverpool will be under pressure to reinvest with an adequate replacement.

However, while Liverpool will be looking to bring in more players, there are still players linked with a move away from Anfield.

One of those is 18-year-old Woodburn, who has been told by Jurgen Klopp he can leave on loan to gain first-team experience.

But the Mail on Sunday claim his potential move to Sunderland has been left in the balance following Coutinho’s departure.

Mohamed Salah’s injury also plays a part in the delay leaving Klopp with limited options.

It is suggested Salah’s knock and Coutinho’s departure could mean Woodburn is needed for Liverpool’s first team in the coming weeks.

And Sunderland are now on tenterhooks waiting to see if Liverpool will allow the Wales international to leave on loan.

Chris Coleman handed Woodburn his international debut for Wales last year and has often spoke highly of the teenager.
