VINEMONT — West End picked up its second win of the season with a 66-57 road victory over Vinemont on Friday night in boys high school basketball.
The Patriots (2-14) were led by Jeremiah Roberson’s 27 points. Eli Pearce added nine points while Nick Campbell added seven points.
West End hosts Cleveland on Tuesday.
Gadsden City 66, Talladega 65
Demetrius Huff's putback with five seconds left in the game lifted Gadsden City past Talladega 66-65 in boys high school basketball Saturday.
Huff finished with 17 points and eight boards for the Titans (9-10). Jaylen Cole also scored 17 points. Darien Hollis totaled 12 points and seven rebounds. Mardayus Bothwell contributed eight rebounds and seven assists. Dee Pearson handed out six assists.
Gadsden City welcomes rival Hewitt-Trussville on Friday.
DAR 65, Sardis 59 (OT)
Sardis fell just short against DAR 65-59 in overtime in boys high school basketball Friday.
The Lions (5-8) led 28-27 at halftime, and then the game was tied at 38 after three quarters and 52 at the end of regulation.
Landon Haygood paced Sardis with 15 points. Harley Cook scored 14 points. Chase Bright had 12 points. Hunter Nickell had 15 points for DAR.
The LIons travel to Moody on Tuesday.
GIRLS
Hokes Bluff 35, Jacksonville 27
HOKES BLUFF — Class 4A, No. 7 Hokes Bluff picked up a big Area 12 win over Jacksonville on Friday night.
Amanda Noah had 12 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles. Logan Black had nine points and Kelsee Otwell grabbed seven rebounds.
Jacksonville’s Kyra Williams totaled seven points.
Gadsden City drops pair
Gadsden City lost to Talladega 58-38 in girls high school basketball Saturday.
Tameah Gaddis paced the Titans (7-12) with 10 points. Karissa Spade and Darrelyn Rudolph each scored nine points.
Grissom edged Gadsden City 49-45 in overtime Friday night in a Class 7A, Area 7 matchup.
Rudolph led the Titans with 16 points. Spade added 13 points.
Gadsden City welcomes Hewitt-Trussville on Friday.
MEN’S COLLEGE HOOPS
Cleveland St. 84, Gadsden St. 83
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Gadsden State came up just short against Cleveland State, 84-83, in men’s junior college basketball Saturday.
Maurice Johnson led the Cardinals with 20 points. Shon McKinney, a Gadsden City alum, scored 17 points. John Arnold had 15 points. De’Aris Richardson helped out with 12 points.
Gadsden State returns home to play Wallace-Hanceville on Tuesday.
