Snow is expected to fall along the Interstate 70 mountain corridor through Saturday night and motorists should expect slick and snow-packed conditions Sunday morning, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Travelers should be prepared for chain and traction laws to go into effect Sunday for most of I-70 through the mountains, added CDOT. Starting about 8 p.m. Saturday, passenger vehicles traveling westbound on I-70 near the Silverthorne and Bakerville exit were required to have adequate snow tires or chains for traction.
The storm continues along the I-70 Mt Corridor throughout the night. Tomorrow morning travelers heading to the high country may expect slick/snow-packed conditions. Violating either the chain or traction law could result in a $130 fine.
Under the traction law, motorists need snow tires, tires with mud/snow designation or a four-while drive vehicle. All tires must have a minimum one-eighth inch tread.
The vehicle chain law requires that every vehicle on the roadway have chains or an alternative traction device like an AutoSock.
