
Suspected robbery kingpin killed in Comilla ‘shootout’

A man suspected to be a robber has been killed in an alleged shootout with police in Comilla.
The incident occurred around 2:30am on Sunday on the banks of the Gumti River in the Sadar Upazila, said Comilla DB Police SI Shah Kamal Akondo.
The man has been identified as 28-year-old Abu Taher. He was the head of the Taher Bahini robber gang, the officer said.
According to Comilla DB Police OC Manzur Alam, detective police conducted a raid in the area after receiving information that 10-15 robbers had taken up positions near the river.
“The robbers opened fire on police and the police team retaliated. Taher was hit in the shootout. He was recovered and taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital for treatment, where doctors declared him dead.”
Another member of the gang was detained from the scene, OC Manzur said.
The Taher Bahini had recently stolen Tk 4 million from the Max company in Comilla city, he said. Police are working to arrest the remaining members.
