Carol Lynn Meylan and Russel Edward Caflisch were married Jan. 2 at the Manhattan Marriage Bureau. Angel L. Lopez, a staff member of the New York City clerk’s office, officiated.

The bride, 59, is a licensed clinical social worker. She previously worked as the director of agency programs for Catholic Charities of Los Angeles. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, received an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree in social work from U.C.L.A.

She is a daughter of Lorraine F. Meylan and Lenz R. Meylan of Glendale, Calif. The bride’s father retired as a division manager in Los Angeles for AT&T. Her mother retired as a fifth-grade teacher at Aragon Avenue Elementary School in Los Angeles.

The groom, 63, is the director of the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and a professor of mathematics at N.Y.U. He graduated from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich. and received a Ph.D in mathematics from N.Y.U.

He is a son of Dorothy G. Caflisch of Kingsport, Tenn., and the late Edward G. Caflisch, who was a research chemist at Union Carbide in South Charleston, W.Va.
