Speaking soon after the victory, Verbeek said, 'The win is fantastic, of course, as I wanted to lead a team in Gulf Cup. I didn't expect to be successful when we started the campaign. But this title is fantastic for Oman football, for my players and for the fans.

'Both the teams were well-balanced and we knew that the team that scored first would win. My goalkeeper [Faiz al Rusheidi] did very well to stop the penalty in regulation time.'

The coach also expressed his appreciation for the UAE side. 'They played 120 minutes only couple of days ago [won against Iraq on penalties in semifinal]. Winning the penalty is fantastic but to lose on the penalties is very bad. I feel for them.'
