Several candidates from different parties showed their support to President Maithripala Sirisena and joined the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) for the LG election.
The candidates who were scheduled to contest the upcoming local government elections under the Podujana Peramuna ticket representing the Era-Kamma Pradeshiya Sabha of the Ampara District, threw their weight behind President Sirisena yesterday, January 8.
The candidates are M.J. Rauf, Ameer Ali-faiz, M.N. Safras and S.A. Jemirul.
Further, Era-Kamma Pradeshiya sabha, UNP member H.L.A.M. Siddij also showed his support to the President’s Agenda.
Meanwhile, candidate A.L. Nirmala who was scheduled to contest under Podujana Peramuna ticket, representing Kolonnawa Urban Council and Former Deputy Mayor of Kolonnawa, Suresh Kodagoda, also joined the UPFA.
The leader representing National Freedom Front of Galle, Indrajit Wijewardane, a group of 21 persons who functioned as the JVP’s Parliamentary and Provincial council organisers met with President Sirisena and supported the SLFP .
Representing the All Ceylon Muslim Congress was A.L.S. Lebbe.
A group of eleven members of the Nil Balakaya including Maharagama Permanent Chairman, H. Manjula Prasanna Kumara and UNP organisers of the National Employees Union and the Colombo Manning Market also met the President at the president’s official residence and joined the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
