John C. (Buddy) Rier, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior December 13, 2017. He was born March 30, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee, the youngest of three children born to William and Janie Rier.
After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served four years during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended Memphis State University. In 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Robinett. They were married for 62 years and together raised four children. In 1973 he and his family moved from Memphis to Medford, Oregon. He owned and operated Process Instrument Repair and Triple R Engraving. He was also a journeyman electrician, retiring from Timber Products in 1995.
John loved working in his shop and activities with his family and friends, especially camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carolyn Glenn and a brother, Robert Rier, both of Memphis, Tenn.; and his grandson, Ryan Beavers. He leaves his wife, Roberta; daughter, René Beavers (Brad), Medford; sons, Ross Rier (Lesslee), Medford, David Rier (Aletha), Spokane, Washington, and Whit Rier, Portland; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A life celebration will be held at 10 a.m. January 12, 2018 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Dr., Medford, where John was a member for 44 years and had served as a Deacon and Elder. A private burial will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
