Postdoctoral Fellow : Grenoble, France

Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Barcelona (Spain), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton near Cambridge (UK), Rome (Italy).
EMBL Grenoble Outstation enables access to state-of-the-art structural biology technologies, including the ESRF synchrotron X-ray beamlines for MX and SAXS, neutron scattering at the ILL, cryo-EM and high-field NMR at the IBS as well as protein expression screening, insect cell facilities, biophysical platform, confocal microscopy and high-throughput crystallization platforms. We have local access to excellent cryo-EM instrumentation including Tecnai F30 Polara microscope equipped with K2 detector and soon a cryo-EM facility with FEI Titan Krios will be established at the ESRF. In addition to local instrumentation we have access to all core facilities in other EMBL Institutes.

Qualifications and Experience

A postdoctoral position in structural biology of macromolecular complexes is available in the laboratory of Dr. Eva Kowalinski at the EMBL Grenoble, France. We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join investigations into the structure and function of large RNA-protein complexes involved in RNA editing. We will use a multidisciplinary approach to tackle complex biochemical problems by combining cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography and other biochemical and biophysical methods.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Molecular Biology or related field and have experience in molecular biology techniques, including cloning, protein expression and purification as well as good skills in biochemistry. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM or RNA biology.
