Bharatiya Bikash Parishad State president Surendra Panigrahi on Saturday demanded an amendment to Articles 15, 16 and 17 of the Constitution for abolition of casteism and the reservation system in all institutions in the country.
Caste-wise reservations are being implemented in various elections, all types of jobs of both Central and State Governments and all other institutions which is creating inferior feelings among people, said Panigrahi at a Press meet here.
He said the report of the Mandal Commission, which was established in 1979 to identify the socially or educationally backward people by social, economic, and educational indicators to determine backwardness, has not been properly implemented, for which the benefits are being stolen away by the creamy layer of the society.
He said the kind of reservation policy that our Governments currently follow does nothing but divides the society into different sections. Reservations are nothing but a means to bolster the vote banks of politicians, he observed.
Panigrahi said such a policy hinders the country’s development and competency in all aspects. On one hand, the Preamble to the Constitution states that India is a free, democratic and sovereign nation; and on the other hand, the reservation system is chaining all these aspects into its clutches and creating disparities and differences amongst the people.
He said all political parties know it well that there is no reservation system in the whole world except in India.
The Parishad submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Prime Minster, Union Home Minister, Union Law Minister, all State Chief Ministers, Law Commission of India Chairman and presidents of all political parties.
Among others, Jyoti Ranjan Dash, Surya Narayan Behera, Soren Loren Mishra, Bharadwaj Balbant Ray, Pradeep Kumat Kar and Rabindra Routray were present.
