New Delhi, Jan 07: In yet another tragic incident, four national-level powerlifting players were killed and two seriously injured in a road accident on Sunday. The mishap reportedly took place at 4 AM due to intense fog near Alipur village, close to the Sindhu border between Delhi and Haryana.
While four powerlifters were killed in the accident, Saksham Yadav, who won a gold medal in the 2017 powerlifting championship for the country, was seriously injured along with another player, a police official informed. They were immediately taken to the Max Hospital in New Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh for treatment.
The official said that the car first hit a divider and then crashed into an electricity pole. “The driver was speeding despite dense fog in the area,” he added.
Meanwhile, intense fog and cold wave continue to disrupt normal life across North India. Train and flight services have been disrupted, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at railway stations and airport.
The mercury dipped to 5 degree Celsius in the capital today. The MeT office has said that there will be similar weather conditions over the next two to three days and the cold condition will intensify. Earlier on Saturday, the capital experienced its first coldest day of this season as the minimum temperature dropped to 4.2 degree Celsius, three notches below the average.
