Riyad Mahrez to Liverpool: Leicester star's entourage speaks out

LIVERPOOL have not made contact with Leicester star Riyad Mahrez.

That is according to African football expert Gary Al-Smith, who has spoken to the entourage of the Algeria star.

Mahrez has been linked with a move to Liverpool after they reached an agreement with Barcelona to sell Philippe Coutinho for £142million.

Replacements for Coutinho are being considered by Liverpool and reports in France claimed Mahrez was set for a medical in a £49m deal.

Liverpool have made no comment on Mahrez and Al-Smith says Mahrez’s team haven’t received any approach from them.

Al-Smith wrote on Twitter: “Just spoken to a member of Mahrez's team.

“Says there has been no official contact from Liverpool. Says Riyad will only leave LCFC for a very considerable fee.

“Hints that Klopp is actually lining up someone else. Definitely not the Algerian.”

Earlier today, former Liverpool striker John Aldridge called on the club to sign someone as soon as possible and claimed Mahrez would be an ideal replacement for Barcelona-bound Coutinho.

“I am not surprised but disappointed he [Coutinho] is leaving because he is a fantastic player to watch,” Aldridge told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek.

“£140million is a lot of money and Liverpool have to spend it wisely.

“They have spent £75million of it wisely on Virgil van Dijk - a player we have needed for some time in a leader at the back - but he [Coutinho] needs replacing and we have got to do it ASAP.”
