Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen demands fans get behind youngster ahead of FA Cup tie

LEEDS UNITED boss Thomas Christiansen insists his side cannot underestimate Newport County today.

The Championship outfit travel to Rodney Parade in today's early kick off, hoping to avoid an FA Cup upset.

Leeds beat today's opposition 5-1 in the League Cup back in August.

And Christiansen is hoping to for a similar result this afternoon.

“It is a long way to travel for us, but we are ready to go to Newport and progress to the next round," he told Leeds' official website.

“I will make some changes, players who haven’t had the possibility to play so much will have their chance in this game.

“We cannot go there and underestimate Newport, if we go there with the right attitude, we will take a good result”

“It is also an opportunity for the players to show their worth and this season, when players have been given chances, many have grabbed it and I want the same to happen in this game.

“We cannot go there and underestimate Newport, if we go there with the right attitude, we will take a good result.

“In the FA Cup, smaller or lower ranked teams have the chance to beat stronger teams, this is the beauty of this competitions and it always happens.

“There will be surprises in all of the rounds, but I hope we are not involved in one.”

Christiansen has also asked fans to get behind youngster Jay-Roy Grot.

The 19-year-old, who can operate as a striker or as a winger, has struggled to impress for the Whites since his move to Elland Road in the summer.

But the Leeds boss wants supporters to get behind the starlet.

“I have complete faith in Jay-Roy because I can see here is without question a young player who possesses real quality," he told the Sun.

“It has been hard for him to show that quality since he came here and his time will surely come.

“More than anything else he needs his confidence to be boosted and it is really important for his development that the fans get behind him.”
