New Delhi, Jan 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a three-day top-level police conference at the Border Security Force (BSF) Academy at Tekanpur in Gwalior on Sunday. The meet that began on Saturday was attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval, the officers of Director-General of Police (DGP) and Inspector-General of Police (IGP) ranks from all the states and central police organisations.

Union Ministers of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Kiren Rijiju and Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba also joined the event. About 250 senior police officers attended the conclave yesterday in which issues such as the security situation in the major combat theatres of Jammu and Kashmir, Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and the Northeast were discussed.

An official release said that the annual conference of Director General of Police (DGPs) and Inspector General of Police (IGPs) of states is an event where top police officers of the country will share and discuss issues like cyber terrorism, cross-border terrorism, impact of social media on society and radicalisation of youth. It has also been reported that PM Modi may announce top 10 police stations around 11 AM today.

This is the fourth time that the conference of police officers is being held outside Delhi. The idea of holding the meeting of police chiefs outside the national capital was mooted by Modi after he became PM in 2014. He had earlier addressed similar conferences in Guwahati in 2014, in Dhordo in Gujarat’s Rann of Kutch in 2015 and at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad in 2016.
