Ellender High School junior girls’ basketball player Terris McKay announced her verbal commitment to Nicholls State University on Saturday.

McKay wrote about her commitment to Nicholls on her Twitter page.

“To start off, I would like to thank God for giving me the talents to play basketball and also my parents who make a lot of sacrifices to make sure I get to the next level,” McKay wrote. “Next, I am forever grateful for the people who took and still take the time out to help me better my craft in order to help me get the looks and offers that I have received so far. With that being said, I am humbled and very appreciative of the offers and looks I have receiver from various universities, but I’d rather start my next level career at home.”

McKay, a guard, averaged 12 points per game while leading the Lady Patriots to the Class 4A state championship as a sophomore last year.

She was voted the most outstanding player on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 4A All-State team last season.
