The glory of nature meets beauty of art

ORGANIZED by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture of Thailand’s Culture Ministry, the First Thailand Biennale, “Edge of the Wonderland,” will showcase contemporary art outdoors in Krabi from November 2, 2018, to February 28, 2019.

Sited on the west coast of the southern part of the country and just south of Phuket, the area is one of the best-known and most visited international tourist destinations and is known as the “emerald of the Andaman Sea.”

The location provides the opportunities for artists to develop site-specific work at a range of natural sites, and to turn beaches, streams, waterfalls, caves, cliffs and rainforests into art spaces.

Each culture has a different version of a “wonderland” — in some parts of the West, for example, it might be related to the classic story of Alice’s adventures.

This inaugural Biennale curated by Jiang Jiehong (UK/China), has invited almost 80 artists from around the world. It engenders a new way of thinking, stimulates dialogue and debate as global meets local, guiding visitors on a creative journey through art, nature, tourism and everyday life.
