Sam old, same old. Chapter three in the musical franchise helmed by Trish Sie reunites the cast of preceding instalments, who belt out tunes in perfect harmony. Alas and alack, there’s the same old “humour” catering to the low common denominator – courtesy, Amy (Rebel Wilson)

This instalment has the award-winning a capella singing “chorus girls”, entering the big bad world of adults after graduating from college.Almost all of them now have unexciting jobs. Soon, Beca (Anna Kendrick) who quits her job for a feckless rapper, while Stacie (Alexis Knapp) becomes an unwed mother.Thank God she has the baby.

Then Aubrey (Anna Camp) helps arrange an overseas tour through paternal connections, which takes the Bellas to US Army bases in Spain, France, Italy and Greece, where Fat Amy behaves entirely in character if you know what I mean.

As it turns out, the tour also involves a competition where A-list hip-hop artist DJ Khaled (playing himself) wants a new opening act, which will eventually join his record label. The Bellas are one of four competing groups: instrumental group Evermoist; country band Saddle Up; Young Sparrow (Trinidad James) and DJ Dragon Nuts (DJ Looney).

Before you can hum do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti, ex-judges Gail (Elizabeth Banks) and John (John Michael Higgins) turn up as doc filmmakers!

Also showing up is Amy’s no-good father, Fergus (John Lithgow) with a nefarious agenda of his own. Sheesh. Pitch Perfect fans will like the catchy songs.Your reviewer also liked the theme of friendship.
