A man jumping from bank to bank committing robberies Saturday morning was caught after a brief shootout with officers on Garth Road, police said.

The unidentified suspect first showed up at Texas First Bank at 819 Rollingbrook St. about 10:40 a.m., robbing the bank of an unspecified amount, according to BPD spokesman Lt. Steve Dorris.

Later, police were alerted of another robbery in progress at the TDECU 6011 Garth Road about 11:30 a.m. Officers arrived at the scene as the suspect exited the bank, brandishing a weapon, and one officer fired at but did not hit the suspect, Dorris said.

The suspect fled the scene in his PT Cruiser, and police gave chase, stopping him near I-10 and TX-146 and taking him into custody, Dorris said.

It was not clear how much was stolen at each bank, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
