Child hurt, mom jailed after OVI crash

PIKE TWP. Police say an East Sparta-area woman was intoxicated with her child in the car when she lost control of her vehicle, traveled down an embankment and came to rest in a frozen creek Friday.

According to Stark County Jail records, the 34-year-old woman who lives in the 2600 block of Ullet Street SW was arrested at 11:05 p.m. Friday at Aultman Hospital, 2600 Sixth St. SW, by Canton police.

The woman's 5-year-old son suffered minor injuries in the crash, the jail records show.

The woman was booked into the jail on misdemeanor charges of endangering children, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving under suspension and failure to obey traffic control devices.

Crash details were not yet available.

The woman was released from jail after posting $164 bond Saturday, pending a Canton Municipal Court hearing.
