Connecticut

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has promoted Elysa Gordon to the position of vice president and senior advisor to the president. In that role, Gordon will oversee the foundation's new evaluation and research unit and will continue to direct its public policy activities. As senior advisor to the president, Gordon has been working to advance the foundation's mission and strategic objectives, including foundation-wide collaboration and coordination in order to drive institutional learning and maximize the impact of its investments.

Florida

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties has announced that area donors contributed over $700,000 to more than sixty organizations in the wake of Hurricane Irma. In anticipation of Irma's landfall, a group of seven funders, including CFPBMC, Allegany Franciscan Ministries, the Celia Lipton Farris and Victor W. Farris Foundation, and the Lost Tree Village Charitable Foundation, met to create a streamlined application process for local nonprofits. The resulting emergency funding enabled local nonprofits to provide Palm Beach County residents with food, needed supplies, housing, counseling, and general support services – even as those agencies were dealing with the impact of the storm on their own staff and facilities.

Maryland

The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore is Salisbury has appointed three new members to its board of directors. Allen C. Browne, Sr. is a former assistant superintendent for student services from the Wicomico County Board of Education. Ginnie Malone is a former teacher and currently works in the real estate industry. And Jan Perdue, who previously served for twelve years on the foundation's board, has been serving on its community needs and education grants committee.

New Hampshire

The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has announced that it will award $500,000 this year in support of students attending community colleges in the state. In 2017, the foundation nearly tripled its support for such students, from about $160,000 to more than $420,000. The increase in aid is aimed at helping meet the goal of 65 percent of New Hampshire adults having a high-value degree or credential by 2025. Community college tuition in the state is approximately $5,000 a year.

New York

The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo has announced that it is accepting applications for scholarships for the 2018-19 academic year. The deadline to apply is April 1, and applications must be submitted online. Scholarship awards typically range from $1,000 to $6,000.

Ohio

The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has announced that the request for proposals for its Providing A Safety Net for Individuals & Families program closes on February 2. The RFP is aimed at reducing inequities and strengthening the safety net for individuals and families in the region.

Oklahoma

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has announced grants totaling $56,600 to Mobile Meals of Oklahoma County and fifty-four churches that prepare and deliver meals to people in the area. In addition, grants of $4,400 were awarded to Edmond Mobile Meals and Meals on Wheels of Norman. The foundation's support of Mobile Meals programs in central Oklahoma over the past decade has increased significantly and now totals nearly $325,000.

Pennsylvania

The Washington County Community Foundation in Pennsylvania has announced that it is accepting nominations through January 31 for three annual community awards. The Dr. Howard Jack Outstanding Public Educator Award recognizes a local public educator who has displayed the ability to inspire children from all backgrounds and abilities; who has earned the respect of colleagues, students and parents; and who is actively engaged in the community; the award includes a $1,000 grant to an educational program of the recipient's choice. The Louis E. Waller Humanitarian Award recognizes a local individual or organization who is devoted to the promotion of human welfare and/or the advancement of social reforms as evidenced by his/her humanitarian deeds, whether local, national, or international; the award includes a $1,000 grant to a charity of the recipient's choice. And the Charles C. Keller Excellence Award for Corporate Philanthropy recognizes the exemplary giving and community service of a local for-profit business.
